We need to evolve as news consumers

Let’s have a lengthy discussion on the news business, shall we?  In light of the story that broke this weekend about Covington Catholic students and the Tribal Elder and Black Hebrew Isrealites, we need to better understand news in 2019.  Everyone wants to hammer the “media” for getting the story “wrong.” But see, here’s the thing… They didn’t “get it wrong.” The story evolved and so did the coverage. What has not evolved, is how many of us consume the news.

News in 2019 is not like news in 1989 where we read the paper or watched it at 6 and 11. I didn’t read a single news story about this incident the day it broke. I saw it going viral on Twitter. The “reporting” on this was first and second-hand accounts on the fly. I made my first Social Media post on this before any news media story on it broke because I work with kids this age and have been to DC with kids and would never have let that happen.
